Godwin Sosi Pens Insurance Day Article on the Importance of Racial Diversity in the London Market

August 24, 2021

In a recent article  published in Insurance Day, Godwin Sosi, Management Liability Underwriter at Sompo International and co-founder of the African-Caribbean Insurance Network (ACIN) shared his views on diversity in the London market and said, “Now is the time to realize that, for our businesses to achieve the greatest possible success, we must improve ethnic membership at all levels within our ranks.”

He commented on the importance of mentoring, especially given the lack of role models in the industry for those from diverse backgrounds and for women, and commended Sompo International’s CEO of International Insurance, Julian James, on his leadership and focus in this area, “He always wants to know how change can happen and what he can do to help.”

Sosi noted that the London market has realized that lack of diversity is a significant business disadvantage and said that while “we are moving the needle in building awareness,” more change is needed. “Now is the right moment for corporate executives to agree that, if our talent base is to be as skilled and rich as possible, we must make our market’s culture welcoming to people from black and ethnic minority backgrounds.”
