Companies of all sizes in the Real Estate, Hospitality, Financial Institutions, Professional Services and Life Sciences industries can face significant environmental exposures from existing and emerging conditions affecting their properties and construction projects. To help these companies, as well as Asian-based companies with U.S. operations facing similar environmental exposures, address their risk management needs, Sompo Global Risk Solutions has expanded its Environmental team to further support its clients with a holistic approach backed by white glove service.
“When I joined Sompo Global Risk Solutions, I was drawn to the team’s industry focus and the collaborative approach between empowered underwriters, claims professionals and risk control specialists,” said Hiral Shah, JD, Senior Vice President, Environmental Product Leader for Sompo GRS. “Our holistic approach helps to set us apart in the Environmental market and positions us to anticipate client exposures so we can help minimize losses and respond quickly when they do happen. Perhaps our greatest competitive advantage is our experienced team which brings a mix of technical and industry expertise focused on environmental risk.”
Ms. Shah is joined by experienced environmental underwriters such as Chris Swayze, VP, Scott Kosienski, VP, and Harrison Wasserbauer, AVP. Mr. Swayze has over 20 years of experience in the environmental insurance industry and has been focused on working with Ms. Shah to build-out the Sompo GRS Environmental program globally. Mr. Kosienski has extensive experience in environmental underwriting and risk management, having spent the last 20 years of his career with a leading brokerage firm working in the Environmental and Construction Practices group. The team’s newest addition, Mr. Wasserbauer, is an experienced production underwriter who is focused on developing the distribution strategy and the tailored site-specific and contractors’ pollution coverages for Sompo GRS clients.
The Sompo GRS Environmental underwriting leaders collaborate closely with dedicated claims and risk control specialists to tailor coverages and risk management solutions for each account. Eugene Wingert, VP, Risk Control, draws on his 30 years of experience as an environmental engineer, including the last 15 years directly related to environmental risk control services in the insurance industry, to serve Sompo GRS Environmental clients. Specifically, he partners with the Sompo GRS Environmental underwriters and claims specialists to provide risk reviews and insights utilizing his environmental due diligence, remediation and redevelopment, compliance and environmental program management expertise. Jeanette David, AVP, Claims, serves as the team’s dedicated Environmental Claims Counsel, drawing on her 15 years of environmental claims handling experience to deliver efficient service, value-added expertise and fair and appropriate outcomes for Sompo GRS Environmental insureds.
“It’s an exciting time to be part of Sompo GRS generally, and specifically, on the Environmental team,” adds Ms. Shah. “As the broader Sompo GRS business continues to grow, our Environmental team continues to expand and build on our specialized capabilities. This includes adding Environmental underwriting experience and expertise complemented by dedicated Risk Control and claims counsel – all focused on serving our industry vertical and Asian interest clients.”
