Matthew Burns

Matt Burns currently serves as leader of the Middle Market and Primary Casualty segments for Sompo International in North America. Matt has over 17 years of insurance and executive management experience and is responsible for strategy, talent management, profit, and growth for Middle Market and Large Accounts primary casualty. Prior to joining Sompo, he held various underwriting leadership and management positions on the carrier side.

Since joining the firm in 2017, Matt has built, from the ground up, the Sompo Middle Market operation and assumed responsibility for Large Accounts primary casualty in July 2022. His team focuses on serving mid-sized and global clients in the Life Science, Technology, Financial Institutions, Professional Services, Real Estate, Hospitality, and Manufacturing industries, as well as Asian-interest accounts.

Matt is a graduate of Gettysburg College and reports to Chris Sparro in Sompo’s New York City office.
