Ralph Brand is President Continental Europe Commercial P&C Insurance at Sompo. Mr. Brand began his career as an apprentice at Allianz Germany in Cologne in 1983. During his more than 16 years with the Allianz Group, he held various claims, underwriting and management positions in Germany, the US and South-Africa. In 2000 he joined American International Group (AIG) Europe in Paris as the Casualty Manager for Continental Europe. Over the next 12 years, he held various executive positions at AIG in Paris, Stockholm and London, including Large Accounts Manager Europe,General Manager Scandinavia, Chief Operating Officer Europe and Managing Director Country Operations Europe. In 2012 Mr. Brand joined Zurich as Chief Executive Officer of Zurich Germany and General Insurance, in Bonn, a position he held until 2016. Following 3 years of running his own business as an investor and consultant in the insurtech and fintech industry, he rejoined Zurich in 2019 to be their Global Head of Casualty, Financial Lines & Cyber, based in Zurich. He is in his current role at Sompo since January 2023.Mr. Brand holds a degree in Economics (Marketing and Foreign Trade).
