Meet Ben Vaky, Business Development Director – Northwest Region
Please tell us about your career journey and your path to Sompo International.
Out of college I started working for a Mutual Fund, underwriting syndicated bank debt for a Collateralized Loan Fund. When the credit crisis hit in 2008 I pivoted to insurance where I landed at AIG underwriting Environmental Casualty business. From there, I moved into a Business Development role and eventually was transferred West to San Francisco. When Sompo International started up the Business Development function on the West Coast I was approached to interview. Once I heard the value proposition and corporate philosophy, I knew this was an opportunity I could not pass up.
What advice do you have for prospective Sompo International candidates?
Anyone looking to join Sompo International will have the opportunity to work alongside and learn from the best and brightest people in the Industry. In every facet of the organization, I continue to be impressed with the knowledge, initiative and drive that each person here displays.
Tell us about an initiative at Sompo International that you are most excited for in 2022.
I am very excited about the continued strategic and profitable growth that Sompo International has planned for 2022 across our Business Units. We have methodically added talent and new product developments to move the business forward not only with existing relationships, but with new business partnerships as well. I am also optimistic (and most excited) about communicating these growth plans to our brokers and clients in person in the coming year!
What is your idea of a perfect day outside of the office?
A perfect day for me would start with a round of golf followed by some quality time with my two little daughters. A summer BBQ outside with friends and ending with a movie on the couch with my wife.
