Meet Caitlin Caffrey, VP, Property Leader – Northeast Region
Please tell us about your career journey and your path to Sompo.
I started my insurance career right out of college at Chubb Insurance as a large property underwriting trainee in the Real Estate Unit. When Chubb was acquired by ACE in 2016, I pivoted to learn large casualty for a year while keeping a small property book of business. As I realized property was more my speed, I moved to Sompo in 2017 as a Senior Underwriter on the large property team. Fast forward to today, I’ve been fortunate to have had the opportunity to manage a team for our West region as well as my current role managing our Northeast region. As for that casualty experience, I continue to handle some accounts along with my other responsibilities. Never know where your next opportunity will lead you!
What advice do you have for prospective Sompo candidates?
Network! The insurance industry is a small world. It’s just as important to build relationships internally as it is externally. And don’t be afraid to grind it out and put the extra hours in now. It will pay off in the long run.
Tell us about an initiative at Sompo that you are most excited for in 2022.
The world is ever changing, and our everyday business has become reliant upon technology. I’m excited to see Sompo’s commitment to investing in emerging technology to streamline efficiencies, improve margins and provide our customers with a leading-edge product.
What is your idea of a perfect day outside of the office?
Depends on the time of year, of course! A perfect day outside the office would be hitting the ski slopes in the winter or a quick getaway to the Hamptons in the summertime with my husband and close family.
