Meet Christine Sullivan, SVP, Risk Control Services Leader, Sompo GRS
Please tell us about your career journey and your path to Sompo.
As a junior in college, I accepted a risk control internship with an insurance carrier — a job and an industry I knew nothing about – but that’s when my passion for safety began. This internship also introduced me to my first mentor, Vic Sordillo, who is now EVP, Sompo GRS Director of Risk Control Services, Sompo. He encouraged me to pursue a career in risk control and to my first real job as a trainee for that same company. Five years later, I moved to the broker side of the business, spending the next 22 year with Lockton, where I worked my way up to SVP and Department Manager, leading an exceptional group of risk control professionals. Then about four years ago, I had the opportunity to join Vic at Sompo, building Sompo GRS’ Risk Control team and service offerings. I’m very proud of the team we are building and the value we bring to each of our clients!
In addition to my role at Sompo, I am also active in the ASSP, the largest safety society in the world. My involvement allows me to give back to an organization that has done so much for me and my career, while also supporting other young professionals in their career journey. This July, I will become only the 8th female president in the ASSP’s 100 plus year history, which is quite an honor.
What advice do you have for prospective Sompo candidates?
Sompo is an amazing company. It is a place where people work extremely hard but have fun. Every day is different and the opportunities for learning and growth are endless. I would also encourage them to network, get involved with industry associations and the different initiatives offered at Sompo.
Tell us about an initiative at Sompo that you are most excited for in 2022.
I am excited about the D&I initiatives that Sompo has undertaken. As a female leader in risk control/safety, I continue to look for ways to support the inclusion and advancement of women in the occupational safety and health profession as well as the insurance industry.
What is your idea of a perfect day outside of the office?
A perfect day outside the office is spending time with my family. I have three incredible children and love biking, hiking, skiing or just watching a movie with them.
