Meet Desmond Cheok, AVP, Asia Pacific Casualty Underwriting Leader, Sompo Global Risk Solutions
Please tell us about your career journey and your path to Sompo.
I have more than 15 years of Casualty and Financial Lines underwriting experience in retail, wholesale and reinsurance business within the Asia Pacific region. I was referred by a senior underwriter from Sompo’s Global Risk Solutions (GRS) team in the UK to the Head of Asia Pac who eventually recruited me.
What advice do you have for prospective Sompo candidates?
Get ready to take on some challenges especially in Asia Pac where Sompo GRS is a new startup. Unlike at many large organizations, you will get direct access to senior leadership in Sompo GRS and all the hard work you put in will be appreciated.
Tell us about an initiative at Sompo that you are most excited for in 2022.
By taking advantage of the fast-growing economies in the region, Sompo GRS will continue to expand its presence in Hong Kong and Tokyo with new headcounts as well as some additional resources in Singapore.
What is your idea of a perfect day outside of the office?
Sitting by the seaside or walking in the bush enjoying the natural scenery.
