Meet Hayden Vokey, AVP Marine Insurance
Please tell us about your career journey and your path to Sompo.
I was first introduced to the marine insurance world through a summer internship with Chubb; it instantly felt like an ideal industry for me given my lifelong interest in sailing and the broader maritime industry. When I graduated I took a position with Bellingham Marine and spent three years supervising marine construction projects throughout Central and Southern California. In 2010 I pivoted back to insurance and joined the San Francisco Allianz team as an Associate Underwriter. While there I had the opportunity to work across inland marine, ocean cargo and hull departments, and eventually transferred up to their Seattle office as a Senior Underwriter. I’m thrilled to now be part of the Sompo Hull team where I have the privilege to steward relationships with brokers and clients up and down the West Coast and Alaska, working to grow our presence here in the West.
What advice do you have for prospective Sompo candidates?
There is a wealth of industry knowledge within the senior leadership team at Sompo. Remain humble and remember that there is always more to learn. Also, our industry is small, and relationships matter. Get to know your peers and work to support each other.

The implementation of the new guidewire system for our quotes, binds and policy issuance.
What is your idea of a perfect day outside of the office?
It depends on the season. During the winter, a perfect day might involve some backcountry snowboarding with friends followed by time with my family and dog. In the warmer months you’ll find me somewhere on the water surfing, teaching my daughter to sail or racing J80s on Puget Sound.
