Meet Kathrin Howard, VP Multinational, Training and Development
Please tell us about your career journey and your path to Sompo
I started my insurance career as a trainee in a global broker’s Multinational department, which turned out to be a perfect fit for me. Working on multinational accounts allows me to use my languages and work with colleagues all around the world, while working with all lines of business. I have stayed with my specialty for 25 years, working as a broker, underwriter, global program facilitator, network manager, consultant, and trainer. Working for Sompo lets me apply everything I have learned over the past 25 years, and I get to share my knowledge and expertise in my role.
What advice do you have for prospective Sompo candidates?
Sompo is a very exciting and dynamic organization and it is a great time to join. It gives me a great sense of pride to work for one of the largest commercial insurance groups in the world. Maybe the most important thing about Sompo for me is that managers and the organization as a whole care about and for their employees.
Tell us about an initiative at SI that you are most excited for in 2023
Unsurprisingly, I am very excited about the group-wide Multinational growth initiative. There is a lot of energy and organizational support behind the goal to become recognized as a top competitor in the small market of insurers writing multinational programs.
What is your idea of a perfect day outside of the office?
A perfect day may start with a walk on the beach, which is only a few miles from my house. I love going to a local farm to load up on fresh produce to try new recipes, with my husband and daughters as willing taste testers. I watch foreign language mysteries to keep up my German, Swedish and French language skills. The day may end with me singing in my community-based choir.
