Meet KC Lee, AVP, Multinational Client Executive
Tell us about your career journey and your path to Sompo International. What attracted you to Sompo International?
I started my insurance career right out of college with Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance of the Samsung Group of Companies, where I spent about 14 years in various positions including underwriting, reinsurance, and marketing in their Multinational/Global Program/Reverse Flow Insurance division. In 2014, I moved to LG Insurance Co. in New Jersey to their SME and Middle Market in a marketing position for over six years. I moved over to Hyundai Marine and Fire Insurance Co in 2020 to build out their MGA Program Business Unit and in September 2022, I joined Sompo International – Multinational Business Unit (MBU) since it was a great opportunity for me to come back to multinational/reverse flow businesses.
Tell us about an initiative at Sompo International that you are most excited for in 2023.
As a new person, I heard there are a lot of meaningful initiatives going on, but I have to pick “One Sompo” and the big push for international capabilities for multinational business.
What advice do you have for prospective Sompo International candidates?
Take your time to learn as much as you can. Be patient – you need to understand it will take time to master this just like anything else. Be a sponge, learn, ask questions, participate, be involved. Don’t worry about failure.
What is your favorite place you’ve ever lived & why?
Austin, Texas – I went to school there at UT Austin. I have so many great memories. I love music, so it was a great place for me to watch so many blues musicians live at the Antone’s Nightclub: ZZ Top, BB King, Buddy Guy, etc. Also, that is where I got my nick name “KC”.
What is your idea of a perfect day outside of the office?
Golf in the morning and dinner with friends and families at Wooga (Korean BBQ restaurant) in Fort Lee, New Jersey.
