Meet Li Lian Soong, VP, Asia-Pacific, Property Underwriting Leader, Sompo Global Risk Solutions
Please tell us about your career journey and your path to Sompo.
My career has spanned multi-lines claims and underwriting, progressing to specializing in the Property and Terrorism lines of business. I started out in claims and underwriting in Singapore and become a Regional Manager for the APAC region. I have worked for direct insurance and reinsurance companies as well as at Lloyd’s. I have learnt a lot from the different roles I had with different companies and I’m glad that the incremental knowledge gained in each role has contributed to each subsequent position.
I’ve looked for different values and knowledge at different stages of my career. Diversity and Inclusion were the main draw for me at Sompo, coupled with the challenge of helping to build the Asia-Pacific portfolio within the Sompo Global Risk Solutions industry verticals.
What advice do you have for prospective Sompo candidates?

Tell us about an initiative at Sompo that you are most excited for in 2022.
There are many exciting initiatives underway this year. The one that excites me the most is the acceleration of our Inclusive Diversity strategy to further embed inclusion, diversity and fairness into all we do. Sompo has a real chance to become the forerunner in our industry in this space.
What is your idea of a perfect day outside of the office?
Hiking one of the trails in our small Island country (Singapore) followed by a good hearty meal with great friends.
