Meet Tara Abel, SVP, Strategic Partnerships
Please tell us about your career journey and your path to Sompo.
My path to my current role at Sompo could be seen as somewhat unconventional. I started my career in the corporate IT department at Nine West as a remote support specialist. While I was there, I worked towards my MBA in Finance which took me down a path of data, analytics, and reporting. I worked as a consultant for a while and then took a role at Saks Fifth Avenue before making a career changing move to the insurance industry with a role at AIG. After 12 years there, I was fortunate enough to get an opportunity to work with some former colleagues at Sompo.
What advice do you have for prospective Sompo candidates?
Always be open to learning. There is a wealth of opportunities at Sompo – unique ones at that. Volunteer for projects outside of your team / department, we really encourage that.
Tell us about an initiative at Sompo that you are most excited for in 2022.
The initiative to build out our Multinational capability is very exciting to me as it is an intersection of Product, Operational, Technology, and Distribution that will enable Sompo to serve a broader client base.
What is your idea of a perfect day outside of the office?
Spending the day with someone special detached from the hustle of NYC. I especially love when there is no cell phone service, so I don’t even have the option to check email – and I can totally unplug!
