Meet Arlene Frohlich, Multinational Database and Process Coordinator, North America
Please tell us about your career journey and your path to Sompo.
I graduated from college with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. I went back to school for my Master’s degree in Reading Education at night while working at Geico Insurance Company during the day on Long Island. I started out as an underwriter in their Assigned Risk department and would often attend meetings at AIPSO on 125 Maiden Lane in Manhattan. A few years later, I moved onto the voluntary side of the company where I had many roles in the Customer Service department and the Underwriting department. I eventually went back to manage a unit in Assigned Risk where I was responsible for my unit that included customer service, underwriting, and fraud.
After almost 25 years with Geico and living my entire life in New York, I decided it was time for a change and to leave the snow and cold behind. I moved to SC where I got a job at Sompo in 2016. It was a new adventure for me as I was no longer dealing with automobile insurance but commercial insurance. I started in Compliance, helping to write procedures. When Endurance and Sompo merged, I began working with Compliance and Legal. 2018 is when Multinational formed, and I was lucky to be a part of this new structure from the beginning and have my current position, which is Multinational Business Analyst.
What advice do you have for prospective Sompo candidates?
We are a growing company; be willing to embrace changes, focus on tasks, and be eager to learn. Absorb as much as you can and take it all in!
Tell us about an initiative at Sompo that you are most excited for in 2023.
The multinational policy administration platform: a system that will improve our technology use and support our newly created network of fronting partners. I am also excited about the One Sompo initiative, which integrates with Japan to create a coordinated and consistent global operation.
What is your idea of a perfect day outside of the office?
I enjoy spending any time I can with my 18-year-old daughter as well as my 2 dogs: Luna and Skye. But a perfect day outside of the office would be with friends doing anything outdoors – whether listening to live music, hiking, going to the beach, visiting fairs, going to local breweries, or enjoying good food!
